JOINT POLICY COMMITTEE

Joint Policy Committee - Climate Bay Area

Climate Consultant, Joint Policy Committee

The Joint Policy Committee—local elected officials representing ABAG, MTC, BCDC and BAAQMD—has selected six joint actions on climate change for 2009/10. The JPC Climate Consultant’s primary responsibility is to help facilitate strong implementation partnerships among the regional agencies and with external public/private stakeholders.

Six Joint Actions for 2009/10:

  1. 1.   Begin development of the Bay Area’s Sustainable Community Strategy (SB 375).

  2. 2.   Develop an Indirect Source Rule requiring residential, commercial and other types of development to mitigate related air pollutants from vehicles.

  3. 3.   Create climate-friendly regional/local parking policies that will produce multiple benefits for local communities and the region.

  4. 4.   Support efforts to make the Bay Area the electric vehicle capital of the U.S.

  5. 5.   Develop and implement a solar and energy efficiency financing district for residential and commercial building retrofits.

  6. 6.   Coordinate adaptation planning for Bay Area climate impacts and help to create a more resilient and prepared nine-county region.
